City Council approved a 224- million
dollar spending plan this afternoon,
but not before it revised the pay
ordinance that had angered so many city
employees.

regretted how the budget deliberations
had divided city employees.

But he said he and other council
members had worked hard to craft a fair
plan.

The revised ordinance calls for a
general three percent raise on July
first. A four percent bump that will
bring Fire and EMS and sheriffs
department employees in line with
police takes effect in January.

City employees who attended the budget
meeting were generally pleased with
council''s decision, but they spoke out
against giving any employee group
preferential treatment.

But the county administrator and
supervisors didn't get the 20-pages
worth of information until 45-minutes
before the afternoon meeting.

The school board had asked for
six-point-nine million dollars in
federal, state and local funds, but the
county came up more than 850-thousand
dollars short.

This will be the 22nd year for the
tournament. This year will be the
first though that will help fund the
First Tee Golf Program to help educate
the youth on life skills through golf.

OQ=News 7 Sports. < (END SOT) tournament started as a local


fundraiser in memory of a young Roanoke
Country Club Golfer who passed away.
It has grown to be one of the top
ranked junior tournaments in the
country.

The Scott Robertson continues to make
an impression on the golfers that
attend. Marika Lendl the Girls 15-18
defending champion and daughter of
former pro tennis player Ivan Lendl
will be returning to try and repeat.
As will the Boys 15-18 defending
champion Jon Curran who will try an win
a second straight Scott Robertson
Title.

Not only it this years field impressive
but so is the Scott Robertson alumni
list. Current L-P-G-A tour members
Natalie Gulbis and Si Re Pak played in
this tourney. As did Kevin Na and
Hunter Mahan currently on the P-G-A
tour.

seasons are winding down and tomorrow
night - the Cherry Creek Bruins girls
lacrosse team plays its final home game
out in Greenwood Village, Colorado.

No big deal except that one of
the stars on the Cherry Creek high
school team has decided to bring her
game to the University of Virginia
season and join the reigning national
champs.

:00 Meet Jordan Elway, the daughter
of Hall of Fame quarterback John Elway.

She not only resembles her dad in
looks, but also wears his number 7, and
she has many of his athletic moves.

This season the senior attack has
33 goals and six assists for a team

team that is unbeaten in district play
in Colorado's highest class - 5A.

Jordan will become the first
member of the Elway clan to leave the
family's western roots.
