Police say a 16 year old was
shot.

He was taken to Roanoke
Memorial Hospital with what are
described as non-life threatening

"Mad Max" is still on the loose in the
Lynchburg area ... and police say he
may be responsible for at least one
other crime.

Last week, an elderly woman was
beaten, raped and robbed in her home on
Leesville Road by a man who called
himself "the Mad Max".

Two days earlier, just a half mile
away, a Campbell County home was
burglarized at gunpoint by a suspect
wearing similar clothes, and also
referring to himself as "Mad Max".

He's described as 5 feet 7 inches
tall, about 175 pounds and wearing a
dark blue or black sweatshirt ...
police don't know his race.

They're asking residents to be on
the lookout for suspicious activity.

The 45 year old was on death row for
the murders of four young women and
girls in Connecticut in the 19- 80s.

commute.

V-DOT says sometime between six
o-clock and eight o-clock this evening,
eastbound Route 460 traffic near the
intersection of Route 419 will be
stopped for approximately 20 minutes
while the overhead sign is installed.

Traffic turning from Route 419 to

eastbound route 460 will also be
stopped.

If you're heading to Blacksburg
this weekend, V-DOT has issued a
traffic alert in advance of graduation
ceremonies at Virginia Tech.

Traffic is expected to be
especially heavy on Interstate 81,
Route 11, Route 114 and Route 460.

It's recommended that all
travelers allow extra time to get to
their destinations.

Henry County couple's backyard
yesterday, and they did what most would
have done, they called the police.

After the A-T-F, the Henry County
Sherriff's office, Martinsville Police,
and the Virginia State Police
responded, it was decided that the
object was a weather balloon.

in the Freeman's backyard.

A Radiosonde, or weather balloon,
launched by the National Weather
Service.

They're released twice a day in
Blacksburg and the rest of the country.

The balloons normally burst 12 to
13 miles up and then parachute to the
ground, and out of all those, only 2
percent are ever found and returned to
the National Weather Service.

That's why the Freeman's were a
little worried when one ended up in
their back yard.

expected retail sales report ...

The dow tanked 110 points.. the sp lost
nearly 12.. the nasdaq slipped 7.

E-trade has made a 6- billion dollar
cash and stock offer for rival online
discount broker Ameritrade.. But
Ameritrade says it's not for sale.

Another bump in the road for
Ford..Moody's Investors Service cut the
company's credit rating by two levels
today to one step above junk bond
status. Last week Standard and Poors
lowered both Ford and General Motor's
debt to junk.

Appomattox Middle School stayed home
yesterday after parents learned a
threat was found in a boys bathroom
earlier this week.

The threat indicated there would be
a school shooting on May 12th ... the

school was searched before classes
yesterday and no weapons were found.

Extra security was on hand and the
day passed without incident.

Officials say the threat may have
been a copycat of the incident at
Jefferson Forest High School in which
another threatening note kept hundreds
of students home Wednesday.

Glade Hill and Hardy were injured in an
accident on Route 40.

It happened just before 4 o'clock
yesterday afternoon in the Redwood area
of Franklin County.

Police say the driver of a Chevy
Cavalier was pulling out of a church
parking lot alongside a bus, which
blocked the driver's view of the road.

When she pulled out, she was struck
by a pickup truck.

Both the driver of the pickup and a
passenger were ejected.

All three girls hospitalized with

non-life threatening injuries.

None was wearing a seatbelt.

morning, we have some traffic
information to pass along.

V-DOT says sometime between six
o-clock and eight o-clock this evening,
eastbound Route 460 traffic near the
intersection of Route 419 will be
stopped for approximately 20 minutes
while an overhead sign is installed.

Traffic turning from Route 419 to
eastbound route 460 will also be
stopped.

If you're heading to Blacksburg
this weekend, V-DOT has issued a
traffic alert in advance of graduation
ceremonies at Virginia Tech.

Traffic is expected to be
especially heavy on Interstate 81,
Route 11, Route 114 and Route 460.

It's recommended that all
travelers allow extra time to get to
their destinations.

Lynchburg woman was attacked and raped
in her home, police are still looking
for the man who attacked her.

Police say the suspect broke into
the house, beat and raped the woman and

Lynchburg area ... and police say he
may be responsible for at least one
other crime.

Last week, an elderly woman was
beaten, raped and robbed in her home on
Leesville Road by a man who called
himself "the Mad Max".

Two days earlier, just a half mile
away, a Campbell County home was
burglarized at gunpoint by a suspect

He's described as 5 feet 7 inches
tall, about 175 pounds and wearing a
dark blue or black sweatshirt ...
police don't know his race.

Evening commuters who travel in Salem
should know that sometime between six
o-clock and eight o-clock tonight,
eastbound Route 460 traffic near the
intersection of Route 419 will be
stopped for approximately 20 minutes
while an overhead sign is installed.

Traffic turning from Route 419 to
eastbound route 460 will also be
stopped.

ENG#1 Roanoke Police are

investigating at shooting that injured
a 16 year old.

It happened just after ten o-clock
in the 34-hundred block of Ferncliff
Avenue.

The teenager was taken to
Roanoke Memorial Hospital with what are
described as non-life threatening
injuries.
