but lose some civilian positions under
the Pentagon's federal base closing
recommendations.

The biggest cut is the plan to
close office space in northern
Virginia, which would cost about 23-
thousand jobs.

The Pentagon wants to close Fort
Monroe in Hampton, but add about
19-thousand jobs at Fort Belvoir and
Fort Lee.

The first round of closings is
expected to occur over six years,
starting in 2006.

It will save the military billions,
but the economic impact for communities
could be devastating.
