(SUPER: Mark Zuckerberg / Founder,
thefacebook.com) (SOT: After it took

off at Harvard, we decided we should
start launching it at other schools and
see what happened) FAST-FORWARD FIFTEEN
MONTHS. THE SITE IS SO POPULAR THAT ...
ACCORDING TO VENTURE CAPITAL TRADE
PUBLICATIONS ... INVESTORS ARE STAKING
12 MILLION DOLLARS ON A BET THAT THE
SITE ISN'T JUST A TREND. AT HOFSTRA
UNIVERSITY IN NEW YORK ... ONE OF 700
PLUS SCHOOLS SERVICED BY THE FREE SITE
... STUDENTS LOG ON EVERY DAY. YOU
WANNA FIND OUT IF THAT CUTE GIRL DOWN
THE HALL STILL HAS A BOYFRIEND? YOU
DON'T HAVE TO ASK - JUST FACEBOOK HER.
THE SITE ALSO LISTS EVENTS ON CAMPUS:

YOGA CLASSES ... FRATERNITY PARTIES ...
EVEN GROUPS FOR PEOPLE WHO ARE ADDICTED
TO THE CELEBRITY TABLOID ... US WEEKLY.
(SUPER: Shannon Jones / Senior, Hofstra
U) (SOT: Brianna: 104 members Shannon:

Yeah (laughs)) (SUPER: Brianna Keilar,
CBS News) (STAND UP: Most students use
thefacebook.com as a social networking
site but some have found it also comes
in handy as a study tool) THEY POST
THEIR CLASSES ON THEIR PROFILE TO LINK
TO OTHER STUDENTS TAKING THE SAME
COURSES. (SUPER: Khadeen Joseph /
Senior, Hofstra U) (SOT: That way

everyone can know what classes I take
at Hofstra and I can get together with
people for group projects) THE SITE IS
CONVENIENT AND FUN ... BUT EVEN
STUDENTS WHO CAN'T GET ENOUGH OF IT SAY
YOU HAVE TO BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU PUT
PERSONAL INFORMATION ON THE WEB.
(SHANNON SOT: it will say, so-and-so

wants to be your friend, confirm or
reject? And if I don't know the person
I usually reject the) SOUND HARSH?
MAYBE ... BUT AT LEAST ON THE
FACEBOOK-DOT-COM YOU DON'T HAVE TO DO
IT FACE-TO-FACE.BRIANNA KEILAR CBS NEWS
