as 41- year- old Carl Edward Roland.

He's being sought in Pinellas
County, Florida, for killing his ex-
girlfriend.

The badly beaten body of 36-year-old
Jennifer Gonzales was found in a
retention pond Tuesday.

Police negotiators tried to talk to
Roland throughout the night as he
contemplated suicide.

Rush hour traffic in Atlanta was
disrupted yesterday when Roland climbed
the 18-story crane, and refused to come
down.

jail.

is accused of being the criminal who
called himself Mad Max.

In a detention hearing this morning,
a judge said Ward

would be held indefinitely without
bond.

His defense team has requested a
psychiatric evaluation to determine if
he is competent to stand trial, and if
he was insane at the time of the
offenses.

He has been charged with breaking
into homes, robbery, and beating and
raping an elderly woman.

Campbell County's prosecutor says
