nobody was hurt when a knife wielding
suspect robbed a Waffle House.

Thirlane Road near Peters Creek around
9:40 last night.

Authorities say he pulled a knife
and got away with an undisclosed amount
of cash.

The robber was wearing blue jeans

Roanoke -- is a member of the
organization trying to shut the clinic
down.

says C-R-C, which owns the new
methadone clinic on Hershberger Road,
is now a corporate member of the
organization.

Officials say that while the
NAACP does NOT agree with the clinic's
location, it *cannot* legally deny
membership to anyone.

The group now hopes to work with
C-R-C to find a more appropriate
location in the Roanoke Valley.

August 2004 Last summer, we told you about
problems at the Craig County rescue
squad.


The squad was down to
three-volunteers and having trouble
keeping up with the volume of calls.

Last Monday -- a new board made
up of a variety of people from the
community -- was elected.

The board President says there
are now 19-volunteers and changes are
being made for the good of the squad
and the community.

Elmwood Park was alive Sunday
with thousands of people enjoying the
sunny skies that have frequently been
missing from recent Festivals in the
Park.

Along with the more favorable
weather, other changes to this year's
event include the expansion of the beer
garden to cover nearly the entire park.

expanded boundaries seem to have

Hunter spoke to the congregation at
Riverview Baptist Church in Giles
County yesterday.

Eagleson was one of the original
Tuskegee Airmen -- Hunter is a Vietnam
veteran.

Both men say they fear children
today are in danger of forgetting the
loss and sacrifice made for them in the
past.

committee created to look at how
Virginia tests teachers for licenses.

The committee has suggested a new
college-level reading and writing
examination that focuses on literacy
and communication skills.

Critics of the proposed change
have said requiring English or art
teachers to pass tests in subjects
unrelated to their fields doesn't

ensure quality classroom instruction,
and bars or forces-out otherwise good
teachers.
