an accident.

Police say Faye Bandy Smith was
driving the car when it crossed the
double yellow line on Jae Valley Road-

Officials charged Smith with

No one was hurt.

All the students were put on
another bus and did make it to school.

wrong-doing in a shooting that involved
three Alleghany County deputies last
March.

mile pusuit- that started in West
Virginia and ended in Alleghany County
when deputies shot the driver of a
stolen semi-truck.

Sergeant R.T. Walton and
Corporals S.E. Bush, and C.D. Gibson
were all investigated after the
incident.

Yesterday a grand jury concluded
there was no criminal misconduct on the
part of the deputies.

The driver who was shot remains a
patient at Roanoke Memorial Hospital
and is in fair condition.

estate tax assessment increases to no
more than five percent a year unless

The Region 3 Girls finals in Singles

and Doubles were moved indoors to
Countryside.

In the Singles final this morning,
it was Loy Campbell of Blacksburg
taking on Sarah King of Alleghany.
Both girls were vying for the only
state tournament berth available. In
tennis unlike the other Spring Sports
you have to win the regional in order
to advance.

And Campbell of Blacksburg took home
the regional title by winning in
straight sets.

In Doubles, the team of Katie Sloan
and Betsy Richmond from Lord Botetourt
took on Maria Migliarese and Stephanie
Morrison of Hidden Valley. The Titans
team had already advanced to the state
tournament and their Doubles tandem
followed up with a 6-0, 6-2 win over
the Cavaliers.

The State tournament for Singles is
on Thursday at Radford, with the
Doubles and team competition serving it
up on Friday.

Champ taped an episode of the Regis and
Kelly show that will air Wednesday. He
threw out the first pitch at the
Mets-Diamondbacks game last night, and
today he was in the state capital in
advance of the SunTrust Indy Challenge
on June 25th.

of 80. Mikan, led the Minneapolis
Lakers to titles in 5 of their first 6
years of existence.

One of the league's 50 greatest
players, Mikan played collegiately at
Depaul. He suffered from diabetes and
kidney failure, and had one of his legs
amputated several years ago.
