federal appeals court today struck down
a Virginia law banning a certain type
of late term abortion.

lacks an exception to protect a woman's

Rights challenged the law which bans a

guilty to soliciting a Bedford County
teenager for sex.

18-month, on-line relationship with a
17-year old girl before travelling to
Forest earlier this year to have sex
with her.
He was sentenced to time -served
for his conviction on solicitation of a
minor to commit non-forcible sodomy.
Walizer still faces ten months in
jail for a similar conviction in Ohio.

VO-NAT Ralph Sampson pleaded not guilty
today to federal charges of failing to
pay court-ordered child support. He is
now scheduled for trial September 14th
although his lawyer says they are
trying to work out a deal with the
government.
Combined - the two counts allege
the former UVA star and JMU assistant
coach owes more than $200 thousand
dollars in unpaid child support.

Champions as the Moyer Sports complex
in Salem hosted tonight's Region 3
title game.

rain held off for the championship
showdown between Cave Spring and
Buckingham County.
The game was scoreless until the
4th when the Knights would get on the
board. Jessica Lancaster would line
one up the middle with the bases
loaded. 2 runs would come into score
putting the Knights up.
The very next batter Mackenzie
Meador. She would hit one down the
line in left field. Kendal Martin
would score from third. Lancaster
would try and score from second, but
would be out at the plate. Cave Spring
would lead 3 to nothing.
That was all that Jillian Sullivan
would need. She struck out double
digits tonight and got some defensive
help as Jessica Boatwright would make
the great catch to end the game.

Cave Spring will host a State Tournament game on

school lost its head coach.

In his 8 seasons, Boone coached

Today, athletic director Scott
Allison announced that successful
softball coach Alan Bayse will not be
back next season to coach the Maroons.

Director of Competition Lynn Carroll
has resigned his post at the track.

1988 Carroll has been with the track
since it opened on Memorial Day weekend
1988 as the Pulaski County Speedway.
Since then it has undergone two
more name changes and evolved into one
of the best Saturday night tracks on
the east coast.
Carroll was in charge of
inspections, keeping things legal, and
settling disputes related to the rules
of racing.
He says he's proud of the role
he played in making the speedway racing
what it is today.
