recovering after being beaten and
robbed in his own home.

happened yesterday morning at the Axton
home of 89 year old Albert Giles.

The man said he awoke around
midnight to find an intruder inside.

The intruder hit him in the
head and face, tied him up and locked

Deputies later arrested 50
year old Argentine Rocco Hairston.

He's being held without bond.

Guardsmen were ordered to active duty
today.

The 320 soldiers with
Second Battalion, 224th Aviation, based
in Eastern Virginia, will spend 18
months in federal service.

Meanwhile, two soldiers from
Western Virginia are back with their
families tonight.

Ray Puckett of Daleville arrived back
in Roanoke along with Sergeant Jay Agee
A-G of Bland County.

The two have been serving in
Iraq... Puckett for eight-months, while

remember the men who were lost.

High wind, heavy rain and hail
pelted the Blue Ridge section of
Botetourt especially hard Monday night.

Uprooted trees crashed down on
anything in their path- in this case a
children's swingset.

For residents of the Willow Brook
Trailer park - trees weren't a
problem, but flooding was.

Trailers were damaged by high
water, but officials say no one was
injured.

An electrical transformer was
apparently struck by lightning last
night, knocking out power- to- the-
Roanoke Times' press.

With repairs looking a long way
off, management decided to seek
assistance from the Times' sister
paper.

They sent electronic files of the

day's news to Greensboro.

The paper was printed there and
trucked to Roanoke for distribution by
late morning.

A replacement transformer was
expected to have the press back in
business by mid-afternoon.

Bruins vs Warriors The Bruins were looking to make it :00 to Radford for the State Semi-finals.
Taking on Magna Vista this evening.

This one was tied at 1-all to start
the second half, which belonged to the
Bruins, who peppered Warriors keeper
Justin Oliver, but Oliver was up to the
challenge making the nice save.

Blacksburg broke the deadlock
when Albert Alwang sends the free kick
into the middle where Daniel Ehrich
gets a head on it, finding the net with
just under 7 minutes to play. That was
the game winner as the Bruins beat the

the State Semi-finals in Radford.

The Cave Spring Softball team was in
action as well as Beth Mast's team got
to host a state quarterfinal game.

Knights vs Trojans The Knights were taking on the
Trojans of Tunstall at Penn Forest
Elementary.

The game was scoreless in the 3rd
when Jaci Clark grounds one back to the
pitcher. The throw to first gets away
and Clark is going to motor around
second and go all the way to end up on
third and Cave Spring was threaten.


The Knights would eventually have 2
on for Meredith Moore whose going to
smack one to right field. Both runs
are going to come into score to give
Cave Spring the lead.

The score would remain 2 to
nothing and in the 7th. The Knights
defense *CG final Tunstall would make that the final. As Jillian 0 Sullivan would pitch a complete game Cave Spring shutout getting the grounder to third 2 with a runner on base to finish it off.

Upton out Great Bridge High School in
the Tidewater area. Upton went to the
Arizona Diamondbacks. He is the
younger brother of B.J. Upton who was
drafted number 2 overall pick in 2002
by the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. They are
the highest drafted siblings ever.

The number 4 overall pick was Ryan
Zimmerman a third baseman for the
University of Virginia. He was taken
by the Washington Nationals. Zimmerman
excelled for the Cavs this season
hitting almost 4-hunderd and driving a
team high 59 run in 61 games in this
his junior season he is expected to
forego his senior year.

Also on the first day of the
draft. The people of Tunstall have
reason to celebrate as Will Inman the
Right Handed pitcher was taken with the
85th overall pick by the Milwaukee
Brewers.

They were looking for a ticket
worth 50-thousand dollars which was
buried in a 12-foot tall wedding cake.

The contest was a promotional
