A-E-P says lightning struck the
transformer that powers the newspaper's
huge Heidleberg press.
That was around 8:30 last night.
A new transformer was lifted into place
by 6:30 this morning, about the time
people expect to see the paper on their
doorstep.
The Roanoke Times had to be
printed in Greensboro and didn't arrive
in Roanoke until nearly noon.
The folks at the Roanoke
distribution center started scrambling
late this morning to get the carriers
on the road.

ditch their schoolbus and their bag
lunch today ... in exchange for a
limousine ride and a meal at a nice
restaurant.

A stretch limo pulled up outside
Bedford Middle School this morning ...
the result of some hard work by these
ten students over the past few months.
By completing all of their
assignments every week for fourteen
weeks, the students earned "B-M-S
Bucks" ... and they spent them on a
limo ride.
