shows more drivers may not be paying
attention to the road.

A new study by researchers at the
Virginia Tech Smart Road found
distracted drivers may cause more
accidents than originally thought.

Shannon, this study used real
people in real situations.

More than 100 cars were fitted
with hidden cameras and more than 240
people were monitored, every day, for a
year.

They volunteered for the study
and drove in the Northern Virginia/DC
area.

left a woman dead - police are
identifying the officer involved.

Officer Timothy VanMarter was
driving this police cruiser late Friday
night on Chaparral Drive.

According to police reports, the
officer collided with a Blue Expedition
driven by Joyce Hawthorne.

Both were taken to Roanoke
Memorial Hospital where Hawthorne later
died.

Roanoke County police say they
will continue to investigate.

But plans to go just a few feet
higher are not sitting well with some
residents.

preschoolers tried to make a record
splash over the weekend, with their
older friends happy to help out.

Fishers Pointe Cooperative Preschool
invited the public to help break the
Guinness record for the world's largest
water balloon fight.

More than 900 people threw more than
23-thousand balloons.

However the world record has not
yet been officially confirmed.

The balloon bout also helped raise

money for a local hospital.
