driveway on Chaparral Drive when she
was hit by an ON-DUTY officer.

Both Hawthorne and the officer
were taken to Roanoke Memorial Hospital
-- Hawthorne died there.

Hawthorne's co-workers at the
Mount Regis Center in Salem say she
will be missed.

She worked at the drug abuse
center for nearly two decades.

gas up, but the average price of fuel
is dropping.

16- cents a gallon.

The price has fallen nearly two
cents over three weeks.

But the Lundberg Survey says the

The teenagers told police they dropped
Holloway at her hotel-but

Holloway's mother who looked at the
security tapes said -quote-"that's a

lie."

She also said the other two
suspects-former security guards are

For two weeks Aruban, Dutch and FBI
agents sent in from the United

States have searched this tiny island
--but they say they have found no

signs of Holloway.

are looking for a man who shot another

man in an *apartment* complex.

Police say the shooting happened
yesterday afternoon at the Woodside
Village Apartments off of Piney Forest
Road.

The victim says the shooter
approached him from behind and then
shot him.

The man suffered injuries to his
groin and abdomen.

Police are looking for dark
skinned black man who's about six feet
tall.

He was also wearing a hat.

investigating an armed robbery.

They say the suspect approached

an employee who was locking the door at
the Fas-Mart on Arnett Boulevard around
12:30 Sunday morning.

The suspect demanded money, and
shoved the woman to the ground.

He then took off on foot with an
unkown amount of cash.

Authorities describe the suspect
as a medium build black man, who was
wearing black jeans and yellow gloves.
