February 1998 This morning Richard Childress :00 Racing - Earnhardt's former employer -

reached a confidential settlement with
United of Omaha Life Insurance over the
life insurance policy taken out on the
Intimidator.

The company had refused to pay
the $3 point 7 million dollar policy
because Earnhardt had not taken the
required physical before he died in a
crash at the 2001 Daytona 500. Judge
Kimberly Taylor ruled in favor of the
race team and chastised the insurer for
failing to provide key documents in the
case.
