small caliber round through Janet
McNair's house around 6:15 yesterday
morning.
The bullet entered McNair's house
number, continued through the wall and
then went across the living room.
It then struck the opposite wall
and ricocheted back to the front door.

GRAPHIC=Robbery OTS Police in Danville are on the
hunt for two suspects accused of
attacking a woman and robbing her.

It happened around 3:30 yesterday
morning in the 200-block of Hughes
Street.
A woman told police she was
walking in the area and stopped to talk
to two men, when they assaulted and
robbed her.
The suspects then took off in a
burgundy vehicle, with Virginia tags
SIMILAR to J-A-W-3-8-0-5.
The suspects are described as two
black men in their 30s and 40s, each
weighing about 160 pounds.

GRAPHIC=Fatal Shooting Henry County authorities are
investigating a shooting that left one
person dead.
It happened just before two
o'clock yesterday morning at Moran's
Trailer Park on Route-57 in the Bassett
area.
Authorities say several men got
into a fight over a woman, which led to
the shooting.
18-year-old Jermaine Cox-Ingram
was shot in the stomach.
He later died at the hospital.

Jefferson's home this summer will get
to play with artifacts that normally
would be off limits.
It's all part of Monticello's
effort to be more kid-friendly in time
for summer travel.
Instead of learning about
dignitaries, there will be more
child-friendly topics, such as
activities that
Jefferson's grandchildren would have
done during their time at Monticello.
Tours will be conducted on the
hour starting at 10 a-m with the final
tour at 3 p-m.
They'll last until August 15th.

They found out they were free in
June 18-65.
140 years later, communities
across the country celebrate the day
that is now known as Juneteenth.

Hill Plantation Resort opened its doors
to the community.
Some in the crowd of 400 were
descendants of slaves who lived and
worked on the plantation.

spectacular light show, but officials
warn that except for flash floods,
lightning kills more people in the
United States annually than any other
weather event --including hurricanes
and tornadoes.
Yesterday marked the beginning of
National Lightning Safety Awareness
Week.
31 people died from lightning
strikes last year --and another 280
were injured.

type of grain and it's getting a test
run in fields across the state.
Experts believe barley that sheds
its hull during harvesting -- will help
animals gain weight faster.
Researchers say the *hull-free*
barley can be combined with corn to
produce ethanol.
Barley was once a popular food
for hogs and chickens, when they were
raised on traditional farms.

revenue stream for investment in rail
systems will be created this summer.

There is over three-thousand
miles of rail track in Virginia and on
July 1st -- a special rail fund will be
created to support the *upkeep* and
improvements of those railways.
Governor Warner signed the Rail
Enhancement Fund legislation as part of
his Transportation Partnership Act.
The fund will provide 23 million
dollars annually to Virginia's
railways.
The use of funds will require a
30 percent matching contribution from a
non-state source.

GRAPHIC=Fatal Accident A Danville woman is dead after
being thrown from a motorcycle.
It happened around 6:30 Saturday
night in the 12-hundred block of
Pumpkin Creek Lane.
Police say the motorcycle was
headed north, when it lost control and
ran into the side of the car in front
of it.
33-year-old Shawn Elizabeth
Hammock died at the scene.
The driver of the motorcycle was
taken to the hospital for treatment.
The driver of the car was not
hurt.
