Power customers lost electricity during
the storm.

With 120 different outages
reported in the Roanoke Valley alone, a
spokesman says it may be late tomorrow
afternoon before everyone's power is
restored.

neighborhoods while torrential rains
were falling in others.

In most areas, the water receded
quickly, but the clean-up is sure to
continue tomorrow in areas now covered

surgery, but will stay in a Richmond
hospital overnight.

Doctors inserted two pins into
the governor's hand to fix bones broken
when he fell off a bicylce this
morning.

He was transported to Rockbridge

where it was discovered he'd brokien
two bones in his right hand.

After heading back to Richmond by
helicopter, the governor underwent
surgery at the Medical College of

arrest for fatally abusing his one-
*month* old daughter.

22-year-old Tommy Ray Williams,
Junior was picked up in Roanoke County
on a felony child abuse warrant.

The incident first came to light
a week ago when the rescue squad
answered a report of a choking child on
Fairview Street in Christiansburg.

The girl was flown to Roanoke
for treatment.

She died Thursday, and her father
was arrested the next day.

admitted to killing his victims, he
told the court how he did it.

guilty to committing ten counts of
murder in the Wichita area between
19-74 and 19-91.

He calmly detailed the murders and
described his victims as *projects*.

He said he was motivated by sexual
fantasies.

Rader will be sentenced on August
17th, but will not face the death
penalty.

That's because the crimes were

committed before Kansas adopted capital

The Blue Spring Fire is one of
several crackling across the west.

The blaze stretches for about
eight miles along Interstate 15, the
main thoroughfare between Las Vegas and
Salt Lake City.

For the past few days, the
highway's been closed periodically for
safety reasons.

The fire quadrupled in size
yesterday after high winds stoked the
30-foot high flames through trees and
waist-high grass.

car he was driving.

Two Hokies and a Cavalier have
been named to the preseason list of 50
college players up for the Nagurski
award that is given annually to the
best defensive player in the nation.

Tech defensive back Jimmy
Williams, the senior from Hampton, is
joined on the watch list by his
teammate Darryl Tapp - the Hokies
talented defensive end who was an
all-ACC selection a season ago. This
year's winner will be announced on
December 5th at the Westin Hotel in
