has been arrested for abusing his one-
*month* old daughter.
Tommy Ray Williams, Junior was
picked up in Roanoke County on a felony
child abuse warrant.
The incident first came to light
a week ago when the rescue squad
answered the report of a choking child
on Fairview Street in Christiansburg.
The little girl was flown to
Roanoke for treatment.
But she died Thursday, and her
father was apprehended the next day.

picks from the league are also making

Two Hokies and a Cavalier have
been named to the preseason list of 50
college players up for the Nagurski
award that is given annually to the
best defensive player in the nation.
Tech defensive back Jimmy
Williams, the senior from Hampton, is
joined on the watch list by his
teammate Darryl Tapp - the Hokies
talented defensive end who was an
all-ACC selection a season ago. This
year's winner will be announced on
December 5th at the Westin Hotel in
Charlotte.
Virginia also is represented by
linebacker Ahmad Brooks - who was a
first team all-America selection last
season and the Cavs leading tackler.

inflicted today at the All-England
Tennis Club.

VO-NAT Last week Jill Craybas beat
Serena Williams in one many upsets in
week one, but today Craybas was
pummeled by Serena's big sister Venus -
losing 6-love and six two. The match
was played on court two which is known
as the Graveyard of Champions - but
this time it was Venus's playground.
In the past six years, the sisters have
lost to the same player at only three
Grand Slam events. Defending
champion Maria Sharapova - the second
seed, never faced a break point and
beat No. 16 Natalie Dechy 6-4, 6-2.
Sharapova was one of four Russian women
to reach the final eight, and that is a
Grand Slam record.
