GRAPHIC=Severe Weather Hundreds of people are waking up


without power this morning, after
severe storms rolled through the region
dropping trees and power lines.

A-E-P spokesperson Todd Burns
says 15-hundred customers in the
Roanoke Valley are still without power.

That's in addition to 300
customers in Pulaski.

Burns said it may be 4-o'clock
this afternoon before everyone's power
is restored.

The storms rolled into the area
around 7pm... with high winds taking
out trees, and high water flooding many
low-lying areas, including the
intersection of Franklin Road and
Brandon Avenue.

The flooding has become a
familiar experience at Ideal Building
Supply, where employees had to move
fast to beat the rising water.

neighborhoods while torrential rains

In most areas, the water receded

the hospital this morning, --after

breaking two bones in his right hand
yesterday.

The Governor tumbled near Goshen
while riding in Bike Virginia.

He says he used the wrong brake.

He was taken to Stonewall Jackson
memorial hospital where the broken
bones were found.

He then flew back to Richmond for
an operation at the Medical College of
Virginia.

Warner had surgery to place to
metal pins in the broken bones.

Doctors say the operation went
well.

A press aid said today that
there's been no change in the
governor's condition overnight and that
he may be discharged later this
morning.

nothing to do with him quitting as

Henry High School.

Roanoke City Police Department after
twenty four years to take a job with
the Botetourt County Sheriff's
Department.

Lewis got into hot water in 2003
after discussing concerns about school
safety at P-H with a newspaper
reporter.

He told News 7 yesterday his
problems with the police department had
nothing to do with his decision to
leave.

Lewis says he just wants to
return to the place where he grew up.

GRAPHIC=Hold Roanoke county police have


arrested a 22-year old Christiansburg

man for abusing his four week old
daughter.

Tommy Ray Williams, Junior was
picked up in Roanoke County on a felony
child abuse warrant.

The incident first came to light
a week ago when the rescue squad
answered the report of a choking child
on Fairview Street in Christiansburg.

The little girl was flown to
Roanoke for treatment.

But she died Thursday, and her
father was apprehended the next day.

in connection with the shooting of a
4-year-old.

shot himself with a handgun inside his
Tinker Drive home on June Tenth.

The boy was not seriously
hurt.

prison term.

The 30-year old gang leader
wanted to withdraw his guilty plea
yesterday, but the judge wouldn't let
him.

reconsider a recently overturned gun
law.

Last night, the board voted
three-to-two to uphold a decision which
lets people drive on county roads with
LOADED shotguns and rifles in their
vehicles.

The law to *BAN* the weapons came
nearly 13-years ago after Linda Myers
was killed.

She was shot by a child who had
gotten hold of a loaded gun.


Her family says it's a law that
makes sense.
