Burcham says she'll conduct a thorough
investigation of the assault charge
against police chief Joe Gaskins.
In a statement tonight
Burcham said Gaskins will remain on the
job until the investigation is
complete.

In a seperate statement this
afternoon, Gaskins says "The
allegations that led to the warrant are
not true. I remain confident that the

Gaskins' estranged wife, Veronica,
swore out a warrant accusing him of
assaulting her at this Newport News

Police reports describe both

During a 911- call, Mrs. Gaskins
says her husband's girlfriend was at
the house during the confrontation.

Today, the Vinton Police
Department released lab results stating

The Vinton Police Department say

round match 4 and 2. The Quarterfinals

tomorrow with a 36 hole final match on
Saturday.

Roanoke Country Club The final round of the Women's City
County was played today at Roanoke
Country Club, Meg Davies came in with
a 1 stroke lead over Dot Bolling
Davies would get things rolling on
the back 9 by birdieing number 10 and
then drop in another on the 12th, this
one from long Range.
Playing alongside Dot and Meg was
Vickie Kasza, who would shoot the low
round of the day a 69 that included an
eagle on the Par 5 17th Hole. She
finished in third place.
Dot Bolling came in second to
Davies after shooting a 75, her highest
score of the 3 day tournament.
In the end Davies was able to bogey
18 on her way to shooting 71 and
winning the City County title with a
record setting score for the 3 days.

Kraft says he likes the way Vladimir
Putin is quarterbacking Russia.

So he gave the Russian leader his
diamond encrusted Super Bowl ring.
There was speculation that Kraft
didn't mean to give the ring to Putin,
who walked off with it during a meeting
last weekend.
Kraft cleared up the confusion with
a statement saying the Russian
president was "clearly taken" with the
ring's uniqueness.
So, Kraft says he gave Putin the
ring out of respect and admiration for
the Russian people.
