with an accident Wednesday night, when
a car officers were trying to stop
collided with another passenger
vehicle.

violation, in this case window tinting
that was too dark.

At first officers thought the car
was going to pull over in the
northbound lanes of the the Roy Webber
Expressway.

Instead it took the Wonju Street

Avenue near Towers Shopping Center.

Police apprehended the man who
tried to flee, and two other suspects
were taken into custody.

The driver of the second car, a
woman, was taken to the hospital. And
one of the suspects received medical
care after he complained of back pain.
Police did not believe the injuries
were life-threatening.

GRAPHIC=Shooting A Danville woman was shot


inside her home yesterday afternoon.

The 30-year old told police
she was standing inside her house on
Motley Street just before 3 o-clock
when she heard a pop.

She felt a sting in her left
leg and realized she'd been shot. The
woman was taken to Danville Regional
Medical Center for what are described
as non-life threatening injuries.

Danville -- police say they've cracked
a four year old shooting case.

On December 16, 2000, Barry
Ray Leftwich was found dead outside a
home on Marshall Terrace.

Last month, police arrested
Charlie Luther Wilson, Junior of Blairs
on an outstanding warrant.

Police say the investigation
now leads them to believe Wilson
accidentally shot Leftwich.

Wilson's now charged with
involuntary manslaughter.

GRAPHIC=Robbery Police in Danville are also


looking for two suspects who robbed a
man and opened fire on him as he ran
away.

The 19 year old victim was
walking from his house to his car in
the two thousand block of Carter street
when two men approached him.

Police say one suspect was
carrying a pistol, the other had what
appeared to be an AK-47 assault rifle.


The victim was hit in the head
with a gun and robbed. The suspects
opened fire when he tried to escape. No
one was injured.

sued Nelson County after supervisors
refused to allow target shooting at
Orion's game preserve near Wingina
(Win- GINE- uh) .

Orion argued that shooting clays
was necessary warm-up for hunting live
game ... and therefore a protected
right.

But in his opinion issued
yesterday, Judge J. Michael Gamble
rejected that argument.

Orion's owners say they're
considering all their options,
including an appeal.

dollar business with 200 jobs to offer

Norfolk and Western Railway opened a
new passenger station near the Hotel
Roanoke.

Completed In June 1905, and
redesigned in 1946, the station was a
showplace that quickly became a Roanoke

landmark.

out how a suspect died while in the
custody of Amherst County sherrif's
deputies.

Amherst authorities say 29-year-old
Sanchez Jarkel Taylor was acting
strangely when he left his car in the
middle of Route 29 and tried breaking
into a local welding business.

Taylor allegedly resisted arrest
and was pepper-sprayed.

He began suffering respiratory
problems and later died at an area
hospital.

The medical examiner has "not"
determined the cause of death.
