figure out if two recent attacks on
women are related to a series of sexual
assaults last year.

Early Saturday morning a 20 year
old Virginia Tech student was attacked
in her Terrace View Apartment.

Police say a man entered through
the sliding glass door.

The woman was able to fend him
off, just like another victim two weeks
ago.

She was attacked in a stairwell.

Police are now looking into
whether these attacks are related to
four sexual assaults from last July in
the same area of town.

evaded authorities for a month was
indicted yesterday.

June 1 A grand jury indicted William Clyde
Karampour on seven charges, including

escape, felony larceny and grand
larceny.

Authorities say Karampour escaped from
the Franklin County jail April 23rd.

U-S Marshals in Roanoke arrested him
about a month later at the Jefferson
Motor Lodge.

Karampour's attorney has requested his
client undergo a psychological
evaluation.

Federal charges are still pending.

accidents on Smith Mountain Lake are
under investigation.

A 12-year-old North Carolina girl
was airlifted to Lynchburg General
Hospital last night, when officers say
she flew off a water tube and was hit
by another boat.

Authorities are NOT releasing the
girl's name or condition, but charges
are pending.

Four people were also taken to
the hospital Saturday afternoon, when

their boat struck a bank.

Authorities say the driver will
be charged with speeding.

down on drivers that that turn up the
radio.

Recent complaints from residents
have prompted police to step up
enforcement of noise ordinances this
summer, especially at night.

Officials say they'll focus
primarily on citing drivers who play
their stereos at excessive volumes.

speeding and traffic signal violations.

studying certain plants that extract
lead particles from the ground they
grow in.

They're known as
hyper-accumulators ... and they include
plants such as corn, mustard and
sunflowers.

Reseachers at Virginia Tech are
using an interesting way of cleasing
food of harmful viruses and bacteria -
with water pressure.

This machine puts up to
87-thousand pounds of pressure on foods
to rid them off harmful organisms. But
the process doesn't change the taste or
look of foods.


Some food producers are already
using the technology on deli meats and
seafood.

Tech Researchers hope high
pressure treatment could one day be
used to develop vaccines.

door of the Islamic Center of
Blacksburg last month was NOT part of a
hate crime.

Members of the Islamic Center of
Blacksburg found a bag with a burned

Quran near their front door in June.

Police have since discovered the
book belonged to a Muslim Virginia Tech
student who's been traveling in Egypt.

The book was damaged in a kitchen
fire and he left it at the mosque in
hopes members would properly dispose of
it.

Police say the man left a note,
but it apparently blew away.
