Hurricane Dennis roared quickly
through the Florida Panhandle and
Alabama coast earlier today with
120-mile-an-hour winds.

Despite downed power lines and
outages to more than 200-thousand
people, early reports indicate no U-S
deaths and relatively modest structural
damage.

The hurricane has been

is now traveling over the *Gulf Coast

Many residents are still

IT WAS THE STRONGEST STORM ON RECORD

the storm passed... i gotta tell ya the

we saw after hurricane ivan.

DENNIS FOLLOWED THE SAME PATH AS IVAN
JUST 10 MONTHS AGO AND MANY

EXPECTED MORE OF THE SAME. WHEN IT
ARRIVED, DENNIS WAS A A CATEGORY 3

MOVE THINGS THAT DONT NORMALLY MOVE.
ENOUGH TO GIVE MANY A GOOD SCARE.

situation here."

BUT WHEN THE WINDS HAD CALMED AND THE
RAINS CEASED, IT SEEMED MOST

EVERYONE FARED BETTER THAN EXPECTED.

(SOT: Joseph Dennie/Cleaning Up)

We did well, nothing bad happened to
the house, which is what I was

working for.

THE GULF COAST STATES DIDNT GET OFF
SCOTT FREE THOUGH DENNIS DID TOPPLE

COUNTLESS TREES, BOWLED OVER SIGNS, AND
FLOODED PENSACOLAS STREETS.

AND OVER 200-THOUSAND PEOPLE LOST THEIR
POWER.

we'll make sure that we're meeting with

every single family who did

sustain damage from hurricane dennis -
make sure they have food - they

have clothing - and that they have a
safe place to stay.

SAFE FOR NOW, BUT WITH FOUR NAMED
