OQ=Timothy Martin, News7 Franklin <

County He was the mysterious man who
(END SOT) first caught News 7's eye eight years

ago by waving wooden signs at people as
they passed by.

SOT FULL @ 9:43:36

I'VE BEEN CUTTING THAT OUT...NOT OUT OF
MATURITY HAHA 9:40:43

(END SOT)

These days, he's put away his
wooden signs, and is now focusing most
of his attention on his underground
house, that he designed and built
himself.

And on, what he calls his prized

possession, a massive near 50 foot rock
tower built from the ground up using
river rocks sometimes weighing anywhere
from 300 to 500 pounds.

SOT FULL @ 9:42:49

I WOULD GO DOWN TO THE LOCAL CREEK AND
I ESTIMATE IT TOOK AN AVERAGE OF TWO
HOURS TO SELECT AND CARRY TO THE CAR,
LOAD THE CAR, BRING IT AND UNLOAD EACH
CARLOAD OF ROCKS. 9:43:03

(END SOT)

While snakes sometimes visit the
tower, John says when it's done, he
hopes it will get a lot of use.

SOT FULL @ 9:47:19

JOHN GABEL-WHEN I GET IT DONE, I WOULD
LIKE FOR COUPLES AND FAMILYS TO JUST
GET AWAY AND BE ABLE TO SPEND TIME WITH
EACH OTHER.9:47:27

(END SOT)

SOT FULL @9:50:04

TIMOTHY MARTIN/ NEWS 7 THE HARD WORK
JOHN HAS PUT INTO HIS UNDERGROUND
HOUSE, AND THIS NEAR 50 FOOT TOWER IS
STARTING TO PAY OFF. HE RECENTLY
RECEIVED NATIONAL RECOGNITION BY HOME
AND GARDEN TELEVISION. 9:50:14

(END SOT)

SOT FULL@ 9:44:52

I FEEL GREAT, BUT I WISH IT WERE DONE,
I WISH IT WERE DONE SO I COULD SAY YEA
THIS IS MY PRODUCT, ITS DONE, WITH THE
WHOLE DREAM COMING TO ITS FRUITION.
9:45:04

(END SOT)

Some may wonder if years later
John will still consider himself a
mystery?

SOT FULL @ 9:48:28

I IMAGINE, IT MIGHT BE A FAIRYTALE. I
IMAGINE HAVING GOOD TIMES UP HERE WITH
REALLY NICE PEOPLE. 9:48:34

(END SOT)

And that's one fairytale John
hopes won't end anytime soon.
