(END SOT) IT S A HORRIBLE CASE OF MISTAKEN

IDENTITY. BRITISH AUTHORITIES NOW SAY
THE TERROR SUSPECT THEY SHOT AND KILLED
ON A LONDON SUBWAY FRIDAY WAS NOT

OR THE ONES ON JULY 7TH. POLICE IN
LONDON CALL IT A TRAGEDY THEY DEEPLY

LONDONERS.

(Super: Michael Lisbie/London Resident)

I just want to know how they could have
got it so terribly wrong. An innocent
person has died now.

(Super: Jess Presley/London Resident)

Why did they follow him in the first
place?

TRACK: OFFICERS HAD BEEN TRAILING
27-YEAR-OLD BRAZILIAN, JEAN-CHARLES
DEMENEVES BECAUSE OF HIS SUSPICIOUS
BEHAVIOR. AFTER A PURSUIT IN THE
SUBWAY, THEY ORDERED DEMENEVES TO STOP.
INSTEAD, HE HOPPED ON A COMMUTER TRAIN

SAY POLICE SHOT HIM, POINT-BLANK,
SEVERAL TIMES. THEY STILL DON T KNOW

WHY OR AREN T SAYING WHY HE RAN FROM
THEM.

(Super: Teri Okita/Reporting)

STANDUP BRIDGE: Human rights leaders
say the shooting may make London s
immigrants and Muslims more fearful and
are calling for a quick and thorough
investigation.

TRACK: THE CHALLENGE NOW FOR POLICE IS
TO FOLLOW-UP LEADS AS CAREFULLY AND AS
QUICKLY AS THEY CAN. THEY NOW HAVE TWO
MEN IN CUSTODY IN CONNECTION WITH
THURSDAY S BOMBINGS BUT WOULDN T SAY IF
THEY RE AMONG THE FOUR MOST WANTED
SUSPECTS. POLICE HAVE RECEIVED HUNDREDS
OF CALLS SINCE RELEASING PICTURES OF
THE FOUR MEN.

Stewart Petrie lost his wedding band in
the sand of a Connecticut beach.

Petrie's wife, Mary, bought him a
replacement ring, but the ring didn't
hold any of the memories from their
nearly 40 years of marriage.

This week, Petrie returned to the
same spot where he lost his ring and
there he received a gift from the sea.

band from the sand still engraved with
