June 16, 2005 In a survey last week of 625
likely voters, 38-percent chose
Democrat Tim Kaine, while 37-percent
chose Republican Jerry Kilgore.

The *Mason-Dixon* survey is the
first independent, statewide poll this
year.

Nine percent supported state
Senator Russ Potts Junior-- and 16
percent of the respondents were
undecided.

Because of the poll's
four-percent margin of error, Kaine's
one-point advantage is *statistically*
insignificant -- making one of only two

governor's races in the country this
fall, a dead heat.
