this tree limb on Eastern Avenue in
Roanoke.
The limb blocked the road and took what

Ahmed Ressam (AH'-med res-AHM') for
planning to attack the Los Angeles
airport on the eve of the millennium.
Customs agents caught him in
December 1999 with a trunkload of
explosives.
Ressam was convicted in 2001 on
terrorist conspiracy and explosives
charges.
Federal prosecutors asked for a
35-year sentence.
Ressam's defense wanted a 12-year
term.

Investigators say she took more

Sheila Stinnett will go to trial

Thousands of spectators turned out
for the seventieth annual Chincoteague
Wild Pony Swim.
The swim features dozens of wild
ponies swimming from Assateague Island
across a channel to the mainland at
Chincoteague.
Yearlings and younger ponies will
be auctioned off tomorrow, but close to
half a dozen foals will be returned to
Assateague Island to live out their
days with the 300 other wild ponies
there.
Those that are returned to the
island generally have superior genes
that benefit the existing herd.
