This Week Organizers say things are going
extremely well.
That after some hundreds of
scouts were treated for heat- related
illnesses while waiting for President
George Bush to speak Wednesday evening.
The president canceled that
appearance due to a thunder- storm, but
is expected to speak at the Jamboree's
closing ceremonies tomorrow evening.
Some 35- thousand scouts are
attending the event from all over the
world.
Earlier this week four
Scoutmasters from an Alaska troop were
electrocuted while putting up a dining
tent.

struck by lightning yesterday.

The two were with a group of 12-
scouts on a 75- mile hike through
Sequoia National Park.
The group took cover under tarps
and a tent when the thunderstorm
developed.
The 29- year- old leader was
killed instantly.
The 13- year old scout was kept
alive on a ventilator to allow for his
organs to be donated.
Officials say the troop did CPR
on the two victims for more than an
hour in an effort to revive them.

recognizable bus services is cutting
back on its routes, which could leave
some Virginians stranded.

Last Week Greyhound has announced it will
discontinue the Washington-to-Roanoke
route starting August 17th.
It's part of a company
restructuring that began last year.
Sources say the company has
dropped 750- cities from its passenger

announced plans to discontinue service
from Buena Vista, Winchester and
Staunton.

sending ash thousands of feet into the
air.

The volcano known as Popo sent a
cloud of ash 1.24 miles into the sky
south of Mexico City.
The moderate eruption came a day
after two eruptions that sent a column
of ash 1.5 miles into the air and spat
red-hot rocks up to just over a half
mile from the volcano.
Saturday's activity posed no
danger to nearby settlements.
The volcano erupts intermittently
and has since December 1994.
