The Lufthansa passenger jet
apparently caught fire after reportedly
skidding off the runway. Rescue
vehicles have been rushing to the
scene.

Police say it is an Air France
Airbus 340 that was trying to

land when it ran into trouble.
Television pictures show flames and
smoke billowing from an aircraft in a
wooded area near the airport.

Now police want to know why a dead
man was apparently left behind.

It was another resident of the home
who discovered the body of the white
male around 11:00 this morning.

State Police seized 35 bales of
marijuana with an estimated street
value of more than three million
dollars.

The marijuana weighed about 16-
hundred pounds, and authorities
displayed just a few of the bales at a
news conference this morning in Salem.

Acting on information from an

agent in Wytheville, State Police
stopped the truck at the interstate
weigh station in Botetourt County.

A drug dog from the sheriffs
office sniffed out the drugs, and a
search of the trailer produced 27 boxes
of compacted marijuana.

Raleigh when an Amtrak passenger train
struck a dump truck loaded with gravel.

Raleigh Police say the victims were

in the truck, not on the train.

There were no serious injuries
among the 180 passengers and crew on
the train, though four people- -maybe
more- -were taken to the hospital for

from Charlotte to New York.

Firefighters found Keasia Cooper
on the second floor of the burning town
house just after nine o'clock last
night.

The fire was contained within ten
minutes.

Cooper was treated at the scene,
but died later at the hospital.

The girl's mother, another woman
and two more children made it out
safely.

Investigators believe the fire
may have been caused by food left
unattended on the stove.

New Jersey boys found dead in the trunk
of a car says the vehicle was checked

five times, but nobody looked inside
the trunk.

Prosecutor Vincent Sarubbi
(suh-ROO'-bee) says there should have
been a more thorough search of the
vehicle.

He points out the children's shoes
were found in the passenger
compartment.

He says "if someone had opened
the compartment of the car and done a
thorough search" they likely would have
found the

boys alive.

An autopsy indicated the boys-
-aged 5, 6 and 11- -were alive for
hours, as authorities and their parents
searched for them.

latest unconfirmed report says all the

jet made it off SAFELY before the plane
broke up and caught fire.

much of the jet turn into a fireball
after it tried to land at the

city's airport.

Rescue crews continue showering the

Reporter Leah Walker said she saw
the plane try to land in "very fierce

pieces that make a clicking sound on
the wheels can break off and pose a
choking hazard. You can call Radio

be careful if its a Rival Slow Cooker.
All units manufactured between January

1999 and May 2004 are being recalled
because the handles on the base of the
slow cooker can break posing a risk of
burns from hot contebnts spilling on
