1:53:07 I get entertained while I'm
being -- while I'm being employed.
I love to watch the movies. // I'm just
-- in seventh heaven while I'm
watching the movie.
AND IN THE CASE OF 92-YEAR-OLD BOB
MITCHELL, A LOVE FOR MUSIC INSTILLED
EARLY ON LED TO A LIFELONG PASSION --
AND CAREER -- AS A SILENT MOVIE
ORGANIST.
My mother was passionately fond of
music.//she started me with piano
lessons when I was four years old. And
then, when I was 10, I was tall
enough to reach the pedals of an
organ.// After I started taking organ
lessons, I went down to the Strand, and
I realized why there's a pipe
organ in there. And somebody playing
it. They'd be playing, so I told
mother, I want to play that organ.
IN 1924, BOB PLAYED HIS FIRST SILENT
MOVIE...AND A CAREER WAS BORN.
I played for What Price Glory // Beau
Geste // And then most remarkably
for Metropolis.
BUT BOB'S DAYS OF PLAYING AT THE SILENT
PICTURES CAME TO A PREMATURE
END, JUST A FEW YEARS AFTER HIS CAREER
STARTED.
my father said, "oh, I see they're
gonna have sound." I said, "oh
that'll never catch on!" (laughter)
Were you sad? When talkies came in?
Oh yes.//. Yeah. And first they just
had part talking. But of course,
it ended the -- ended the organist.
BOB'S ROLE IN THE MOVIES MAY HAVE BEEN
CUT, BUT THERE WAS STILL A NEED
FOR ORGANISTS...IN CHURCH. BOB SET OUT
ON A NEW PATH FOR HIS LIFE...BY
STARTING A BOY'S CHOIR.
The Bob Mitchell Boys' Choir. //How
long did the choir run for?
Well I'm not a mathematician. I
started in '34, and it ran until --
'90, '1999. Take--
Sixty five years?
Sixty five years. Uh huh.
OVER THOSE YEARS, THE BOB MITCHELL
BOYS' CHOIR GREW FROM 11 ORIGINAL
MEMBERS TO OVER 600 ALUMNAE.
BUT BOB NEVER FORGOT ABOUT HIS DAYS
PLAYING FOR THE SILENT PICTURES,
AND IN 1999, WHEN THE SILENT MOVIE
THEATRE IN LOS ANGELES RE-OPENED, HE
FOUND OUT THAT HIS ROLE IN THE SILENT
MOVIES HADN'T BEEN FORGOTTEN
EITHER.
(Charlie Lustman, owner of the silent
movie theatre) We had him come in.
And I auditioned everyone. So here I
am auditioning a legend. It's
almost, you know, rude. But I didn't
know who he is. And people are
like, "you don't audition this man."
So he played and I was like, "oh
my god."/Really, truly, you're having
an opportunity to see someone
that's one of the only last remaining
of its kind on the planet.
FOR BOB, THOUGH, IT'S NOT ABOUT LEGEND
OR FAME. PLAYING THE ORGAN IS
JUST A BASIC AND ESSENTIAL PART OF
LIFE.
as long as -- as long as a mother --
has a baby, she's gonna sing it to
sleep. And as long as people die,
they're gonna sing dirges. And when
they get married, they're gonna be
happy. And they're gonna dance and
sing to the rhythm of the heart beat.
/I think that's what impresses me
about -- about life.
(anchor tag)
AND EVEN AT 92, BOB SAYS HE DOESN'T
PLAN ON STOPPING HIS PERFORMANCES
ANY TIME SOON.

With 47 sacks in his career, Kerney is
already tied for 3rd on the Dirty Birds
all time list. His 13 a year ago
enabled the Falcons to lead the league
in that category.
PATRICK KERNEY/FALCONS DEFENSIVE END:
TRAVIS:
PATRICK:
The active nature of Kerney and his
mates on the line has done plenty to
take the pressure off of the Falcons
secondary.
KEION CARPENTER/FALCONS SAFETY:
The Falcons practiced for the final
time in Flowery Branch Monday before
heading to Tokyo for this weekend's
American Bowl against the Colts.

The Audubon Society of Rhode Island
is featuring a female lobster that just
molted, revealing a bright blue shell.
Growing lobsters lose their shells
periodically through molting, a process
in which the old, thick shell is
replaced by a new one.
The blue color will become less
intense as the shell thickens and gets
heavier.
Scientists say they believe a genetic
defect in some lobsters produces an
excessive protein that creates the blue
color in the shells of roughly only one
in a million lobsters.
