decided not to re-hire Rick Hall.

for the Supervisor's meeting.
The crowd was so large the
meeting had to be moved from the
government building to Alleghany High
School.
When it finally got underway,
residents either praised or blasted the
board for firing the County
Administrator and her assistant.

from citizens, supervisors went into

They emerged more than an hour

have drowned in the New River has
resumed in Giles County.

The searchers were called out at 6-30
last night to the Shumate Falls area
near Glen Lyn.
Their work was called off a few hours
later when darkness set in, but they
were scheduled to return at seven a.m.

western Virginia this weekend was
carrying more than a load of lettuce.

On Sunday afternoon, State Police
searched the truck and seized 16-
hundred pounds of marijuana. They
estimate the 35 bales would be worth
more than three million dollars on the
street.
Acting on a tip, officers were
looking for the truck when it arrived
at the Interstate 81 weigh station in
Botetourt County.
Two California men were taken
into custody. They face charges of
transporting marijuana and possession
with intent to distribute.

Airport travelers may soon see
fewer T-S-A workers at airports across
the country because of budget cuts.
Officials say that means there will
be a gradual reduction of T-S-A workers
at Roanoke Regional Airport from 40 to

broke camp yesterday afternoon and are
slept under the stars last night.
Others spent the day rappelling-

had an incredible time.

423-million dollars last year, its
fourth consecutive record performance.
By law, all profits go to

found dead in his apartment, a day
after his fellow tenants had been
evicted, has yet to be released.

late 40's was discovered by another
resident of this rooming house on
Rivermont Avenue around 11 a-m
yesterday.
Police say the other tenants were
forced to move yesterday but the victim

being remembered by family and friends.

Scheuerman (SURE-man) was told he died
Saturday from non-combat related
injuries.
Scheuerman joined the Army 18
months ago and was halfway through his
first tour of duty in Operation Iraqi

of cleaning up contaminated groundwater
at Bedford's old landfill.

public water source to all households
north of the landfill along Bell Town
Road.
It also promises to treat
groundwater with chemicals that will
reduce contamination.
South of the landfill, Bedford
says it will install a system to treat
