missing swimmer has been found.

They made the discovery yesterday
evening.
The 16 year old from Mercer
County, West Virginia and his 20 year
old brother were pulled under by the
current in the Shumate Falls area
Tuesday.
On Wednesday, divers found the
body of the 20 year old.

The infamous Hokie Bird wine is back
for another season.
It hit the market for the first time
last September and within two months
all thirty thousand bottles were sold
out.
Even the wine's maker Chateau
Morrisette was surprised by its
popularity.

firefighters busy Thursday afternoon.

They were called to a house on
West Main Street around two-thirty.
When they arrived, they found a
small ceiling fire on the first floor.
A lieutenant with the Salem Fire
Department said three people were
inside at the time, but no one was
hurt.
Most of the damage was contained
to a small area.
Emergency officials had to block
off part of Main Street to get water
from the hydrants.

Wednesday Night Roanoke fire officials aren't
sure what started Wednesday night's
fire inside the Hooker Furniture Plant.
Officials first thought
spontaneous combustion was the cause
but now say more investigation is
required.
As of now the cause remains
listed as "accidential."
Fire officials say the building's
sprinkler system kept the fire in check
until firefighters arrived and put it
out.

Christian Academy still hope to move
into their new building later this
month.
Despite the fact construction is
a month behind schedule.

house L-C-A, part of Liberty University

About a thousand students

danger of failing in Pulaski has
increased.

Engineers hired by the town now
say it will cost 800-thousand dollars
to fix the spillway on Hogan Dam.
The nearly 90 year old structure
is on a state watch list because it's
in danger of failing if it gets a
significant amount of rain in less than
24 hours.
In 2004 the state asked Pulaski
to look for the money to fix the
problem.
So, far, no funds are available
to start the project.

Chilhowie girl who died in a washing
machine earlier this summer is suing
the manufacturer.

She claims the company knew about
problems
with the coin-operated machine, and
failed to fix them.
The lawsuit was filed Thursday in
Smyth County Circuit Court-- seeking
13-point-two (m) million dollars.
Rebecca Hope Wagoner died June 17th
after her half-brother put her in the
washing machine.
The machine started without coins
being inserted, and trapped her inside.
Meanwhile, the half-brother faces an
involuntary manslaughter charge.

several businesses in Salem to evacuate
yesterday afternoon.

The warehouse is also home to the
Southwestern Virginia Second Harvest
Food Bank.
The food bank's director said
they received a donation of household
chemicals that had already spilled.
A regional hazmat team was called
in to assess the damage and to clean up
the chemicals.
The spill caused more than 20
people to evacuate the building, but no
one was injured.
