talk about a gang-related shootout that
injured four people over the weekend.

them from outside the Concord area.

fatally shot a corrections officer,
enabling the inmate to get away.

It happened outside the Roane
County courthouse.

Prisoner George Hyatte was being
brought to the courthouse from the
Brushy Mountain Correctional Complex
for a hearing.

As the prison vehicle was
parking, a woman waiting in the parking
lot- -believed to be Hyatte's wife,
Jennifer, pulled a gun and shot Officer
Wayne Morgan.

The couple then took off in a
Ford Explorer during an exchange of
gunfire.

The corrections officer died a

shot time later from a stomach wound.

several more people from the Downtown
Learning Center who may have been
exposed to turberculosis.

So far, two people have tested
positive for TB-infection. The two will
be getting chest x-rays this week to
determine whether or not they have an
active case of the disease.

return to the center until the testing
is complete and they are cleared by a
doctor indicating they do not have

Health officials say they still don't

We begin with more absurd news
from the NASCAR front.

Kurt Busch - the reigning Nextel
Cup Champion is leaving Roush Racing.

Last October Busch is leaving the most :00 successful Ford operation this season
to drive Dodges for Penske Racing.

Busch has one year left on his
current contract and has asked to be
released to he can replace Rusty
Wallace starting next year.

All parties involved agree that
that Busch is leaving and that he has
already signed a contract with Penske.

Now, we'll have to wait and see
whether or not he's released early from
Roush.

coaches in the state passed away last
night after losing a short battle with

a rare brain disorder

*CG file Friday Football Extra Glynn Carlock, the head football :00 coach at Graham since 1973 died from
Creutzfeld-Jakob Disease.

The rare condition was diagnosed
on July 25th. Carlock was taken to the
Westwood medical center in Bluefield
four days after the disgnosis on July
29th and died less than two weeks after
he was admitted.

Carlock won two state titles at
Graham - the final coming in 1995
against Rustburg, and his teams won 244
games in his tenure.

A who's who of area coaches made
the trek to Bluefield in the past two
weeks after hearing of Carlock's
illness to wish the coach well.

Unfortunately, even a man as
strong as Glynn Carlock couldn't beat
this fatal disease - that is related
to, but not the same thing as Mad Cow
disease.

Visitation will take place

is set for Thursday morning at 11 at

government building today as part of
her court-ordered 120 hours of
community service.

That's the sentence for lying to

police after she ran off days before
her scheduled wedding.

One reporter asked Wilbanks how
long it had been since she'd mowed
grass.
