settlement with Carilion stemming from
the November death of their
five-year-old son.

automobile accident last November.
He was taken to Roanoke Memorial
Hospital where he was treated and
released.
He died the next day.
In a settlement reached last
week- the family was awarded just over
one-million dollars.
Ryan's father, Glovern Ray
Phipps, who was driving at the time of
the accident has signed away any rights
to the money.
He's currently awaiting trial on
drunk driving and involuntary
manslaughter in connection with the
accident.

for military families has opened its
doors in Roanoke.

Today, the Team Virginia Military
Family Support Center opened on First
Street.
Its goal is to help families of
reservists and guardsmen cope when
their loved one is deployed.
The center will offer video
conferencing capibilities, free
long-distance phone service and high
speed internet to help families bridge
the gap.

concerning the passing of Glynn Carlock
- one of the top high school football
coaches in the state.
The Graham high school legend
passed away last night after a short
battle with Creutzfeld-Jakob Disease.

:00 The rare brain disorder that is
related to, but not the same thing as
Mad Cow disease, was diagnosed on July
25th. Carlock was taken to the
Westwood medical center in Bluefield
four days after the diagnosis and died
less than two weeks after he was
admitted.
Carlock won two state titles at
Graham - the final coming in 1995
against Rustburg, and his teams won 244
games in his 31 year tenure.
A who's who of area coaches
traveled to Bluefield in the past two
weeks after hearing of Carlock's
illness to wish the coach well.

Last October Busch is leaving the most

to drive Dodges for Penske Racing.
Busch has one year left on his
current contract at Roush, but he has
asked to be released to he can replace
Rusty Wallace starting next year.
All parties involved agree that
that Busch is leaving and that he has
already signed a contract with Penske.
Now, we'll have to wait and see
whether or not he's released early from
Roush.
