for the suspects in yesterday's
shooting at a local gas station.

A woman had been shot inside her
car around 5:20 yesterday at the Ran
Express Stop on Tenth Street,
Northwest, across the street from
Brown-Robertson Park.

23-year-old Christy Renee Banks
was taken to Roanoke Memorial Hospital,
but her condition is not being
released.

Police say she was conscious
when taken to the hospital.

No arrest have been made.

Mountain Lake water tower ends in a
tie.

The Franklin County Planning
Commission was deadlocked 3 to 3.

to add wireless equipment to this
water tower in the Park Place
community.

But, many residents oppose the
plan, saying the tower is already an
eyesore, and the equipment will only
make it worse.

Since the commission was unable

without a recommendation from the
planning commission.

has arrested a teenager wanted on
second-degree murder charges in Johnson
City, Tenessee.

Plain clothes investigators
picked up the 17 year old murder
suspect from Columbus Ohio, without
incident at the Fort Chiswell bus
station.

state.

The Democrat yesterday announced
his education plan that includes a
program called "Start Strong."

It would expand state- sponsored
pre- schools to make room for every
four- year- old in Virginia.

The voluntary program would cost
290- million dollars, but Kaine says it
would save money in the long run since
well- educated kids tend to get into
less trouble as adults.

Kaine also vows to continue the
fight to build a four- year- university
in Southside.

years for children with special needs.

Lewis-Gale says the decision to cancel
the program is not based on finances
but is related to tightening
regulations and the need to best

gunshot wounds.

Now police are looking for
suspected gang members as the shooters.

County early Sunday after a fight broke
out in the front yard.

apparently began shooting at each other

south.

He will become the new city
manager of Monroe, North Carolina.

Meadows has been Bedford's city
manager for seven years.

Hogan's Dam is 90 years old and
in danger of failing.

It's on a state watch list and
would cost 800-thousand dollars to fix.

The town doesn't have the money
and would have to raise water bills to
help pay for it.

Pulaski Town Council members say
they will now consider offers from
developers to buy the structure plus
17-hundred acres of forest.

There are NO offers on the table
and council still wants to hear what
citizens think about the idea.
