along the banks of the James River near
Lynchburg. A passerby spotted what
they believed was a body floating in
the water earlier today.

The witness called police around
3:15 ... two hours after apparently
seeing what appeared to be a body in
the water.

A state police helicopter spent

about 20 minutes searching the area
near the Monacan bridge but had to head
back because of threatening weather.

Local boat rescue teams are being
called in to help search the river- it
is the area between the bridge and the
Galts Mill area of Amherst County.

11-hundred block of Thomas Avenue
around 3:30 this morning.

When they arrived they found
23-year-old Jamie Lavar Penn shot to
death inside a vehicle.

Police are investigating it as a
homicide and the crime has neighbors on
edge.

Triple A says several factors in

So, what is the gas mileage of
motorcycles compared to cars?

According to Zach Wright of Star City
Powersports -- the average motorcycle
gets about 40-to-50 miles per gallon.

He also says it only takes about four

to seven dollars to fill up a
motorcycle -- so you can see the
*economic* value.

And if you're looking for even more
savings, Wright says scooters can get
anywhere around a HUNDRED miles to
gallon.

powerful earthquake in Northern Japan.

The earthquake measured

The most seriously hurt - were

suffered three cracked ribs, a
