with the shooting death of his nephew
last night, the violent end to what
Sheriff Ronnie Sprinkle calls an
ongoing argument between the two.

49 year old Curtis Brown of Gala
is held at the Botetourt County Jail.

Sheriff Sprinkle say Brown shot
and killed 26 year old Eric Wright of
Clifton Forge near Brown's home.

custody.

But there's some discrepancy as

the chase on 13th Street near Memorial
Bridge.

One of those cars was a unmarked
police vehicle.

Eyewitnesses say the police car was
pursuing the suspect at the time of the
accident.

But police say that's NOT true, that
the police vehicle was parked.


Even so, Roanoke police are launching
an investigation into the incident.

home last night, a fire that a neighbor
could smell before anyone saw it.

Dispatchers got a call for the smell of
smoke just before midnight, and a
police officer quickly found a house on
fire in the 600 block of Wooding
Avenue.

The home was heavily damaged.

Fire officials say the occupants
were away at the time, and there are no
reports of any injuries.

The League of Older Americans'
Meals on Wheels program is feeling the
impact of higher gas prices.

Of their 350-volunteers,
officials say several have either quit
or asked for reimbursements because of
high gas prices.

The L-O-A does not reimburse its
volunteers but the agency has looked to
an outside organization to help SOME of
them.

to remember the life of a Roanoke man
who was murdered.

Dozens of people lit candles at a

vigil on Thomas Avenue for 23-year-old
Jamie Lavar Penn.

Penn was found shot to death at
this spot early Monday morning.

Family and friends held candles
and prayed, before laying flowers at
the scene where police found his body.

The Penn family isn't a stranger
to tragedy.

Jamie's father, Jimmie Lee Penn,
was murdered nearly seven-years ago.

His killer remains on the loose.

as to how a police chase ended in
Roanoke-- a chase that involved a 13-
year- old girl.

The teenager is now in juvenile
custody after a pursuit that started
yesterday when the girl allegedly stole
a vehicle.

25 different school districts are
setting up buses outside of WalMart to
collect paper, pencils and items for
under-privileged children.

Today, the buses will be at the
Walmarts in Covington, Rocky Mount and

immediately back to the school
districts.
