Roanoke police chief Joe Gaskins has
been dropped.

The Associated Press reports
the prosecutor in the case asked that
the assault charge be dismissed for
lack of probable cause.

The case was supposed to go to
trial next week in Newport News.

In June, Gaskins estranged
wife accused the chief of pushing her

The A-P says Veronica
Gaskins did not object to the
prosecutor's request to drop the

Next year, the festival is being cut
in half from ten days to four or five.

It will also take place over one
weekend rather than two.

Organizers say they had no choice.
The festival has been losing money the
last few years.

This past one for example is at least
ten thousand dollars in the red.

The situation at Victory Stadium
contributed to the problem. There was
no big concert there this year and as a
result button sales were down twenty
percent.

Warthogs vs. Avs Big crowd tonight in Salem - :00 although getting in the park was a bit
of a struggle for some.

Runs also were tough to come by
early on, but in the bottom of the
second the Avs manufactured one as
Wilton Reynolds flies out to right on

the sacrifice fly to left fielder Noah
Hall. Ervin Alcantara tags and scores.
it's 1-to-nothing.

Winston-Salem would come back and
tie it in the top of the third. Michael
Myers is out on the sacrifice fly to
center fielder Hunter Pence, but Mike
Spidale scores. It's 1-all.

Winston-Salem is known for the
long ball with 8 players with 10 or
more homers this year and Noah Hall is
one of the. He hits his 23rd of the
season to make it 3-to-1. *CG final Winston-Salem
6 Winston-Salem wins it and gets Salem within a half game of Salem. The two 5 play again tomorrow night.
