(END SOT) the fatal accident involving Staunton

Brandley came from people who knew her
and chastised us for running the story.
"We are appalled that you saw fit to
increase the tragedy by airing details
that will not change the outcome.
People close to Minty are already aware
that her death has been ruled a
suicide. That does not change their
sorrow nor their love for her."
(Krisann Taylor/Lynchburg)
"As a concerned viewer I would like
to know what good can come from
releasing the report...The special
needs children have a difficult time
understanding these concepts in
relation to the rest of the world. I
believe that your poor timing in
breaking a news story first without
consideration of the family or students
of the teacher is in poor judgment."
(Brad and Tammy Vess/Bedford County).
Another viewer close to Ms. Brandley
wrote: "The sheer nature of the crime
scene and details of her death told
people who needed to know that this was
a tragic death- most likely self
inflicted. The family and friends have
been put through so much trauma already
by such a public death. She was
portrayed as a great teacher and
mother- the way friends would like to
remember her, but now it seems that you
are demeaning the tragedy of her death
since it was a suicide. Her death
brings no less grieving or pain with
either verdict.
I am not ashamed of the way she died. I
know she was suffering and this was a
cry for help. I do think we need to use
these opportunities to promote the need
for increased funding for mental health
services or to promote the resources in
town such as the Crisis Line, Mental
Health Association, Suicide Prevention
Coalition or other places where people
can turn when they need help. This
information would do some good for the
community. Simply using her story for
shock value is appalling." (Christy J.
Compton/Lynchburg).
Ms. Compton suggested these websites,

Central Virginia, a local crisis
