of Briar Ridge Place in Forest just
after 10 o'clock yesterday morning.
When they arrived they found Tina
Ferguson bloody and beaten.
She claimed her estranged
husband, Larry Ferguson had come to the
home to pick up their children when the
attack occurred.

for him, they got a call from Lynchburg
police indicating Ferguson had shot
35-year-old John Preston Purvis in the
chest.
Ferguson thought Purvis and his

33- year- old Mistie Dawn
Montgomery is accused to trying to rob
a bank in Shawsville this morning.

in a parking lot on West Main street
just outside the Salem City limits.
A member of the Shawsville
Volunteer Rescue Squad followed the red
blazer into Roanoke County, and helped
police pinpoint her location.

into the drive- thru of the First
National Bank branch in Shawsville
shortly after ten this morning, told
the teller she had a gun, and demanded
money.
She left empty-handed, and police

Northwest's bread is buttered during
the weekwhen full-fare business
flyers take to the sky.

But so far the nations fourth largest
airline is weathering the
turbulence below---keeping its planes
in the air with few cancellations.
Northwest had replacement mechanics
.... and unlike walkouts in the
past----the pilots and flight
attendants refused to join in.

ThIS strike comes after five months of
talks broke down.
Northwest claims it must cut costs by
reducing its workforce-so it can
avoid following other carriers into
filing for bankruptcy.

To survive Northwest says it needs
one-point-one-billion dollars in
concessions, including 176 million from
the mechanics union.
NWA says its suffocating from the
rising cost of fuel combined with
some of the highest paid workers in the
business.

Since they serviced the planes as late
as Friday, the union doesnt
anticipate problems immediately-but
promises they will surface and
operations will nosedive.
Many airline experts disagreeadding
this will further cripple the
unions.

it will have a major effect on labor
relations with the indsustry going
forward. where it clearly puts down
the gauntlet that labor isnt
running the show anymore.

receiver was traded today from the
Cleveland Browns to the Super Bowl
champion New England Patriots.

Browns Training Camp Andre, who is now 26, is entering
:00 his fourth NFL season and was
originally selected by the Browns in
the second round of the 2002 NFL Draft.
In three seasons in Cleveland, the
6-foot-1-inch, 195-pound receiver
started 19 games and made 93 receptions
for 1,412 yards and 13 touchdowns. He
went through his first practice with
the Patriots this afternoon and will
wear number 18 in New England.
