Investigators say a woman pulled into
the drive thru of the Shawsville bank,
told the teller she had a gun and
demanded money.
Bank employees dropped to the
floor, and the woman left empty-handed.
The sheriffs department received
some help from Ray Chandler, a captain
with the Shawsville Volunteer Rescue
Squad who was running errands when the
call went out.

had a rough weekend. Two men broke into
their home, duct- taped one of the
people, threatened a wheelchair-bound
person, and demanded money.

The suspects were described as a

contributed to a fatal boating accident
Saturday night at Smith Mountain Lake-
that's according to the Department of
Game and Inland Fisheries.
Larry and Judi Lewis were killed
instantly, when a 38-foot high
performance boat toppled their cabin
cruiser.
The driver of the other boat,
45-year-old Mark (Da-tur-neon)
Detournillon was treated and released
from the hospital, but authorities say
charges against him are pending.

called to this house in Forest, Sunday
morning. They found Tina Ferguson had
been beaten with "brass-knuckles."
She told deputies her estranged
husband, Larry Ferguson attacked her
after picking up their children.

Authorities say Ferguson dropped his
kids off at church and then headed to
the 400-block of Newberne Street in
Lynchburg.
35-year-old John Preston Purvis
answered the door and the two men began
to argue. Before it was all over-
Purvis was shot in the chest, but not
without wounding Ferguson.
Captain Ricky Gardner, says from there-
Ferguson headed to the Peaks of Otter
where authorities believe he died from
a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
