An Airborn Express DC-8 cargo plane
crashed in Narrows during bad weather.

DAVID CONLEY/EYEWITNESS; THE MOUNTAINS
LIT UP AND THERE WAS AN EXPLOSION AND
BLACK SMOKE AND RED AND BLUE FLAME.

The plane was on a maintenance
flight... all six people on board were
killed.

The Blizzard of '96 dumped up to 2 feet
of snow on Central and Western
Virginia...

LINDA REHM/DANVILLE; WE'RE NOT USED TO

NOW THAT IT HAS, EVERYBODY JUST FREAKS
OUT

As the snow piled up, Governor Allen
declared a state of emergency.

And then there was the rain...
Delivered by the remnants of hurricane

Parts of South Boston were submerged by
flooding.

The storm killed one person, closed
fifteen major roads and forced hundreds
to evacuate their homes. That'a a look
