Concerns that Katrina permanently
damaged Gulf platforms rattled the
energy markets, and set crude oil
prices soaring for a second straight
day.

Some analysts have brushed aside
Bush's offer of oil from the strategic
reserve, saying the problem isn't the
supply of oil, but the ability to
refine it.

At least eight Gulf Coast refineries
in the path of the hurricane shut down
or reduced operations.

But several others weren't affected
by the storm.

Concerns that Katrina permanently
damaged Gulf platforms rattled the
energy markets, and set crude oil
prices soaring for a second straight
day.

Some analysts have brushed aside
President Bush's offer of oil from the
strategic reserve, saying the problem
isn't the supply of oil, but the
ability to refine it.

At least eight Gulf Coast refineries
in the path of the hurricane shut down
or reduced operations.

But several others weren't affected
by the storm.

((THIS IS THE STATE WHERE THE SLAVE
SHIPS LANDED AND TO GO FROM THE HULL OF
A SLAVE SHIP TO GOVERNOR OF THIS STATE
IS A GREAT AMERICAN STORY))

Douglas Wilder was the grandson of
slaves. He grew up in segregated
Richmond just a few blocks from the
State Capitol. Throughout his career,
Wilder broke through color barriers in
the State Senate, the Lieutenant
Governor's office and on January 13-th
1990, he became the nation's first
black elected governor.

Mary Sue Terry also made headlines in
becoming the first woman to hold
statewide elected office.

That a look at some of the headlines
from 1990.

damaged Gulf platforms rattled the

Some analysts have brushed aside

supply of oil, but the ability to
