Yesterday morning, members of the
Virginia Department of Forestry
gathered in Roanoke.

Usually this time of year- the
crew is shipped out West to battle
forest fires.

This year- they're heading to
Baton Rouge where they'll help set up

and run a food distribution center.

They aren't the only group to go-

16-Appalachian Power workers from
the Roanoke and Christianburg areas
left for Mississippi- they'll work to
bring back electricity for residents.

The Dulin's are now staying at a
relative's home.

The family had no flood insurance and
very little savings.

They have contacted the American Red
Cross for help.

But despite their situation, the

tractor trailers were called in to haul
donations away.

The water drive was held for
two-days and filled the equivalent of
three-large trucks.

That collection is over.

hard to predict how high prices will

VanCuren says it's "reasonable"
to see gas prices jump 20- to 30 cents.

That's because gas stations are
paying more to re- fill their supplies.

Nearly 700- thousand Virginians
are expected to travel at least 50-
miles this weekend.

Officials say consumers shouldn't
panic over the gas situation- just
drive smart.

If you don't have to drive DON'T
and if you're taking a trip- drive the
family vehicle that's most fuel
efficient.

The Reverend Jerry Falwell and
other dignitaries helped cut the ribbon
at the school's front door yesterday
afternoon.

Hundreds of L-C-A students and
their families were on hand to get
their first glimpse of the new,
state-of-the-art facilities.

The new L-C-A occupies a portion of
the old Ericsson building which was
donated to Falwell three years ago.

He's now using it house the school,
part of Liberty University and soon ..

it's called now.. The store has been in

operation in that spot for three
decades.. long before the Hunting Hills
Wal Mart or other stores nearby went
up.

Yesterday, the store and gas
station closed down- selling the last
gallon of gas.

The owner says the place is
shutting down to make way for a new
Home Depot.

The hurricane has affected the
flow of petroleum products into
Virginia.

in our area comes by pipeline from the
gulf coast states to terminals like
those located in Montvale.

Hurricane damage has affected the
two major pipelines, though the
companies that operate them say they
are working to minimize any
disruptions.

Petroleum Council says conservation
over the Labor Day weekend could help
to avoid a supply crunch.

Street in Blacksburgh was selling gas
for 2.59.

It sold a record, 2-thousand
5-hundred dollars worth of gas in less
than three hours.
