Virginia Department of Forestry
gathered in Roanoke.
Usually this time of year- the
crew is shipped out West to battle
forest fires.
This year- they're heading to
Baton Rouge where they'll help set up
and run a food distribution center.
They aren't the only group to go-
16-Appalachian Power workers from
the Roanoke and Christianburg areas
left for Mississippi- they'll work to
bring back electricity for residents.

gap in the Roanoke Valley as one of the
few dentists who will accept medicaid
payment.

they need.
The state is hoping to convince more
dentists to accept medicaid patients by
raising the reimbursement rates as part
of the smiles for children program.
Up until recently the state only
paid dentists about 50% of the actual
cost for their usual and customary
services.

Yesterday morning, members of the
Virginia Department of Forestry
gathered in Roanoke.
Usually this time of year- the
crew is shipped out West to battle
forest fires.
This year- they're heading to
Baton Rouge where they'll help set up
and run a food distribution center.
They aren't the only group to go-
16-Appalachian Power workers from
the Roanoke and Christianburg areas
left for Mississippi- they'll work to
bring back electricity for residents.

on U-S marshalls taking an accused bank
robber from a doctor's appointment.
Within seconds, marshall Mike Thompson
shot and killed both assailants and

Georgia evangleist Tony Leyva admitted
to molesting as many as 100 young boys.

ministers pleaded guilty in federal
court to running a prostition ring that
involved underage males.
Democratic Presidential hopeful Al
Gore's campaign train rolled into
Roanoke on February 12th, 1988. He
hoped a little "Cash" would influence

The event attracted a large crowd at
the transportation museum in Downtown
Roanoke .

September 20th, Virginians lined up to
take a chance on the new state run
lottery.

in 1987. Opponents said legalized
gambling would bring more crime to the
state, but the voters didn't agree. In

for 2.59.
It sold a record, 2-thousand
