The accident occured around 2:30
this morning.

Police say the driver of the
truck was injured.

State police are investigating.

supposed to be completed by August
15th.

However, according to Tech's contract
with Turner construction, the
university can fine the contractor ten
thousand dollars a day if the work has
not been substantialy completed after

August 15th.

Tech says it has not yet
discussed financial damages with the
contractor.

school was struck by Vandals Wednesday
night.

arrived early yesterday morning to
broken windows and doors knocked off
hinges.

Classes were held, though some
children weren't able to get into their
classrooms until later in the
afternoon.

Administrators say damage is
estimated at about two thousand
dollars.

Some items have been reported
missing, but staff say it was mostly

just a big mess to cleanup.

GRAPHIC=Gas Price Up Governor Mark Warner says he's


NOT considering asking Virginians to
ration gas -- but Triple-A for the
Mid-Atlantic region IS.

Warner says the two major
pipelines that service Virginia are up
and running.

In the long term, he says
Virginia's supply WILL be affected by
how long it takes damaged refineries
to get back online.

Triple -A says it expects the
cost of gas to increase 25 to 30 cents
withing the next day or so, and wants
drivers to conserve gas whenever
possible over the Labor Day weekend.

Western Virginia is not immune to
the gas trouble

Pumps ran dry at the Corner
Market in Rich Creek WEDNESDAY night.

The station never raised its
price and people started lining up to
fill up.

A tanker arrived finally arrived
yesterday, but no more shipments are
scheduled.

Another station in Pembroke ran
out of gas a few days ago.

The cashier says their supplier
doesn't have any more gas to deliver.

She says they don't know when the
pumps will be active again.

hand to those in need.

June 2003 A team from Smith Mountain Lake's
Marine Fire and Rescue Company left for
the Gulf Coast last night.

They're bringing one fire boat and
two inflatable boats.

Crews will provide basic fire
protection for New Orleans since the
city is mainly under water.

They'll be there for up to a week.

Another local crew will then replace
them.

slowly getting back on its feet in
Roanoke.

and Timothy Dulin.

They along with their daughter and
her two kids fled the Gulf Coast before
the storm hit.

The Dulin's fear they've lost
everything.

The American Red Cross is now
providing the family with financial
assistance.

A number of News 7 viewers have also
pitched in.

Among the donated items are clothing,
a bedroom set, and a television.

hurricane.

Five members of two families
spent 12 hours driving before stopping
at Denny's in Salem.

Bowdish, his wife Judy, and son

Logan left their home in New Orleans
before the hurricane. It followed them
to Mississippi, where they weathered
the storm.

And Tulane University freshman
Chris Garfield, and his mother Donna
arrived in New Orleans just in time to
evacuate.

They are heading home to Fairfax.


The Bowdish family will stay with
relatives in Philadelphia.

None of them know when they'll be
going home.

18 months last winter, the Briar Patch
re-opened for business yesterday.

The Amherst landmark ... which
first opened in 1948 ... burned in
August of 2003 and again this past
January.

Owner Joan Lingerfelt says she was

Katrina, children from the hard- hit
areas along the Gulf Coast will still
be able to attend school.

Those staying with friends or relatives
in Virginia CAN enroll in Virginia
schools.

public- school students in Louisiana

and Mississippi lost their schools.

More than 50- families have
already contacted Virginia schools to
enroll their children.

Those students will be treated as
homeless and won't be required to
produce academic or immunization
records.

However, officials say Virginia
parents shouldn't worry because if
these students were preparing for
school anyway- most should have up- to-
date vaccines.

offering to help ... including Randolph
Macon Woman's College in Lynchburg.

The school will accomodate up to
thirty new students- and they can
transfer to Randolph Macon for half
price.

One student has already taken them

her backpack, college I-D and laptop
