Friday Football Extra

GRAPHIC=FFE Good evening everybody and

welcome to Friday Football Extra here
on Your Hometown Station.

A beautiful night football across
the region and we took advantage of it
for you tonight stretching out from Dry
Fork to Pearisburg.

13 games in all are on the way
tonight, plus don't forget we will get
our first person qualified for the
all-expense paid trip to the inaugural
ACC title game later this year in
Jacksonville.

GRAPHIC=SALEM/BOTETOURT But first we need to give up some

highlights before we can give away
anything and we begin tonight with the
season debut for the for defending
state champion Salem Spartans.

Tonight - with a brand new
backfield - and the same old high
expectations - Salem opened the season
at Lord Botetourt.

Salem vs. Lord Botetourt The Cavaliers came out of the :00 lockeroom for their home opener with a

purpose last night as they hosted the
champs.

But the Spartans would have a
purpose of their own as they tak
control early in the first. From the
Cavalier 25, new Salem quarterback
Keith Gaines dishes the pill to Brandon
Grigsby. He hits the right side and
picks up 13 yards.

Two plays later, the handoff goes
the D-juan Smith who stretches out for
the six yard Spartan touchdown to put
Salem on top 7-to-nothing in the first.

The Cavaliers would make some big
gains on the ground last night as Matt
Witt - the veteran signal caller, pulls
it in and takes it up the left side for
22 yards.
*CG 859 FINAL
Final But Witt left the game after that
play and Salem goes on to win it 30 to

The Terriers would stagger back
