And with a major levee break now
plugged, the city's mayor says it'll
take three weeks to remove the water.

As many as 10- thousand people could

Army National Guard are headed from
Richmond to Jackson, Mississippi this
afternoon.

Schewel's distribution warehouse on
John Capron Road just before nine

When crews arrived they found
sofas, chairs and other furniture on
fire inside the warehouse.

They were able to knock down the
blaze within about 20-minutes with the
help of a sprinkler system inside.

affecting at least one local school
district in the area.

canceling all field trips that use
school buses until further notice.

The decision was made after

projected fuel shortages, and the
continuing increase in gas prices due
to Hurricane Katrina.

Schools are also considering
canceling after- school programs if

Yesterday, the heartiest eaters came
out in force to Chattanooga, Tennessee
for the Krystal Square- off World
Hamburger Eating Championship.

Competitors of all sizes and
backgrounds chomped on the square
burgers.

When it was over Northern Virginia
resident Sonya Thomas-- nicknamed "the
black widow"-- was the victor.

She devoured more burgers than most
people eat in a month.

regular season finale to Lynchburg
yesterday afternoon 6-to-3, but got a
big break about three hours later when
Winston-Salem also lost to Potomac.

The dual defeats mean the Avs and
the Warthogs will play a special one-
game playoff to decide the second half
southern division champ tonight at 7 at
Salem Memorial.

This is a first for the Carolina
League.

Armstrong confirmed he's engaged to his
girlfriend, 43- year- old singer Sheryl
Crow.

Armstrong met Crow at a charity
benefit in 2003.

The cyclist has made headlines for
recovering from testicular cancer-- and
recently denied accusations that he'd
tested positive for steroids in 19- 99.

No word yet on when the celebrity
pair might tight the knot.
