September 3 The memory of the Wahoo's less than :00 stellar performance against Western
Michigan may have been in the minds of
the voters. The U-V-A defense
especially had it's problems in
stopping the Broncos. A member of that
Orange Crush Defense Chris Long has the
benefit of getting praise and criticism
from his coaches as well as a Hall of
Famer in his father Howie Long.

he did back in high school when he
traveled here to Roanoke to watch his
son play against North Cross. That
dedication to family is also helping

Last Saturday And today - the redshirt freshman
:00 from Bath County was named the Atlantic
10's rookie of the week.

Phillips completed 17 of 21
passes for 202 yards against VMI. He
threw for one TD and rushed for
another.

He played the entire game and
with the exception of an interception
was flawless.

He got a lot of help from his
senior cornerback Stephen Cason - who
picked off two passes in the 41-to-7
win and returned one of them for a
touchdown.
