The storm is spinning well off the
coast, but forecasters say it might

turn toward land today.

With the possibility of coastal
flooding, National Guards have been
dispatched to eastern North Carolina.

The governor has ordered mandatory
evacuations of visitors from Ocracoke
Island in the Outer Banks.
*CG locator Blackstone
File Tape Meanwhile, the threat of one
hurricane is keeping a Virginia fort
from helping victims of another.

About 200 Hurricane Katrina evacuees
were expected at Fort Pickett in

officials say they're holding off until
Hurricane Ophelia's threat has passed.

"With all the standing water, we are
going to have problems with flying

bearers of disease."

Over the weekend, the airport opened to
cargo traffic and trash

collections began in some areas.

But there's still a tremendous amount
of work to be done...especially in

areas still engulfed by water.

"It's like you are in the sea, a sea
covered by houses."

Right now the crews are still going
home by home, knocking on the roofs,

smashing in windows and just calling to
see if anyone is inside. But

once all this water is gone, there will

be a whole other round of

searches. Crews will be able to go
inside each home and that's when

they might find more bodies.

sot: Patrick Giannetto/California Task

Force Rescuer (22:58:44)

"Eerie spooky feeling because of the
lack of life, there's no birds,

sort of a weird ghostly feeling."

Officials say New Orleans is still
about 50 percent flooded, down from a

height of 80 percent right after the
levees broke.

(natz President Bush)

On his third trip to the region in
recent days, President Bush thanked

firefighters and other workers Sunday
for their rescue and recovery

efforts. Later today, the president
will tour downtown New Orleans in a

military truck jeep before taking to
the skies again to see damage in

Gulfport, Mississippi.

Two weeks after Katrina hit... the

President and others are finally

seeing progress...signs of hope that
this region can and will recover.
