Roanoke cell phone tower.

The company is considering other
options which includes a review of
Patrick Henry High School as a possible
site.

construction of a 165- foot tower next
to St. Elizabeth's Episcopal Church,
but the plan has drawn criticism from
neighbors.

Representatives of SBA
Properties thought school officials had

The Board of Zoning Appeals
granted a continuance until November
8th.

is on the other side of the law after a
alleged relationship with a teenager.

VO-NAT 23-year-old Jason Simmons faces


several charges for an alleged
relationship with a 13-year-old -
including taking indecent liberties and
contributing to the delinquency of a
minor.

The judge gave him a 90-day
sentence for the delinquency charge-
which his lawyer immediately appealed.

The other charge is headed to the
Botetourt County grand jury.

Initially, he was placed on leave
without pay.

But yesterday, Sheriff Gerald
Holt told News 7 Simmons was no longer
employed with the department.

getting large numbers of hurricane
evacuees.

VO-NAT The state and the Red Cross turned


Fort Pickett and a nearby church camp
into a huge intake center and shelter.

Yesterday, FEMA told the
state to stand down, explaining by memo
that too few evacuees from New Orleans
were boarding planes to leave the area.

Last night, Governor
Warner's spokeswoman says Virginia
still

is negotiating with states such as West
Virginia to bring evacuees housed there
to Fort Pickett and the Virginia United
Methodist Assembly Center.

bank overnight Monday.

Police say the person removed
the lock from the front door of the
People's National Bank on North Main

Street..

It wasn't until yesterday
morning that employees found the
damage.

An undisclosed number of
coins were taken from the teller

several Blacksburg schools- now police
say they've solved the case.

Police arrested 47 year old Debra
Huffman Earles yesterday and charged
her with four counts of larceny.

The purses were stolen in the
past week in the parking lots of
Blacksburg Middle School, Kipps
Elementary and two day care centers.

Earles is at the Montgomery
County Jail without bond.

Now a Mississippi teenager is
starting a new life in Roanoke.

After the storm hit, 16-year-old Bryan
Washington left his family in Biloxi
and headed to the Roanoke Valley with a
group of evacuees.

Now, he's enrolled in school at Hidden
Valley High -- and has even joined the
J-V football team.

His first practice left him a little

banged up, but given what's he's been
through, he says he'll survive.

Merritt were married at Hollins
University.


Through private donations and the
generosity of strangers the newlyweds
came from the Gulf Coast to Roanoke to
start a new life. And they don't
have plans to leave anytime soon.

of the year- chosen from 15 districts.

Yesterday school officials surprised
Mr. Fitz during his science class at
Breckenridge Middle School.

years- He says he loves making learning
fun and getting students excited about
science.

He is now in the running for the
state teacher of the year award.

Now some historic greenhouses in
Lynchburg are getting a second chance
at life.

Grows, is raising money to buy six
acres of property near City Stadium
that used to be home to Schenkel's
SHANK-uls Greenhouses.

The business closed five years
ago, but volunteers hope to repair and

handicapped and special needs people to
grow food.
