Tonight, President Bush talks
about rebuilding after Katrina.
Plus, Tech's Corps of Cadets is

OQ=...I'M MIKE STEVENS." << Welcome to Blacksburg - summer
(END SOT) 1964 - the construction on the original
west side of Lane Stadium had been
underway for just a few months when
this film footage was taken.
Replacing Miles Stadium with Lane
was a massive undertaking for the
times.
And much like this weekend, the
stadium opened for business before it
was completely finished.
On September 24th of 1965 - the
Hokies broke in the facility by hosting
Maryland in a freshman game.
FRANK BEAMER
The 35 thousand 50 seat stadium
was officially dedicated a month later
in October of 1965 - but construction
wasn't completed until four years after
it began in the summer of 1968.
The total cost was three and a
half million dollars - and most of the
time - the stadium was half empty.
WAYNE CAMPBELL
JIM WIGHTMAN
This weekend - there won't be any
empty seats - as fans get their first
look at the Castle beside Cassell
Coliseum that cost nearly $50 million
more than the original stadium stadium
itself.
